Dry pressing
The forming process of zirconia ceramic raw materials, dry pressing, uses pressure to press ceramic powder into a green body of a certain shape. Its essence is that under the action of external force, the powder particles are close to each other in the mold, and are firmly combined by internal friction to maintain a certain shape. The main defect in the dry pressing green body is layer cracking, which is caused by the internal friction between the powders and the friction between the powders and the mold wall, resulting in pressure loss inside the green body. The advantages of dry pressing are accurate green body size, simple operation, and easy mechanized operation; the dry pressing green body has less moisture and binder content, and the drying and firing shrinkage is small. It is mainly used to form products of simple shapes with a small aspect ratio. The increase in production costs caused by mold wear is the shortcoming of the dry pressing forming process of zirconia ceramic raw materials.
Cold isostatic pressing
Isostatic pressing is to place the sample to be pressed in a high-pressure container, and use the incompressible nature of the liquid medium and the property of uniformly transmitting pressure to uniformly pressurize the sample from all directions. When the liquid medium is injected into the pressure container through a pressure pump, according to the principles of fluid mechanics, its pressure remains unchanged and is evenly transmitted in all directions. At this time, the pressure on the powder in the high-pressure container in all directions is uniform and consistent.
Pre-sintering
1. Initial stage of sintering
At this stage, the zirconia ceramic particles begin to bond, and the contact points between the particles gradually form sintering necks through processes such as nucleation and grain growth, but the shape of the particles and the internal grains do not change significantly. At this time, the linear shrinkage of the ceramic is generally about 2-3%, and there is no obvious densification process.
2. Mid-stage of sintering
When the powder particles are in the middle of sintering, as the sintering neck gradually grows, the atoms inside them accelerate to migrate to the bonding surface between the particles, causing the distance between the particles to continue to shrink, and finally forming a continuous pore network. Throughout the process, the size of the grains continues to increase, the density and strength of the particles are improved, and the linear shrinkage of the entire molded body exceeds 10%.
3. Late stage of sintering
When the sintering behavior reaches the late stage, the pores between the particles continue to spheroidize and shrink, most of the pores are separated to form closed pores, and the materials on the grain boundaries continue to migrate to the pores, prompting the grains to continue to grow. At this stage, the pores are reduced, the shrinkage rate is further reduced, and the density of the ceramic is very high.
